Best I Ever Had

Sunset - 2.jpg

What a beautiful sunset.

Two years ago, my father lost his battle with lung cancer. It was tough. Every day was different, but similar. Sometimes, I cried for no reason, at times, I laughed, and most of the time I was just bitter when I was alone.

In my journey through life, many men have become mentors and role models. I have always been proud of having “many dads”; I have always been proud of being raised by a community of amazing and caring people.

On the second anniversary of my father’s passing, I took a long bike ride after work, stopped at a beach and sat down to watch the sunset. With my toes nuzzled in the sand, Luther’s “Dance with My Father” in my years, I was happy. Reminiscing on our time together over the last three decades, I was proud to be his son. And thinking of all the amazing men that help shaped me into a caring, kind and compassionate person, I felt very blessed. However, my dad tops all of them. I guess you can you say, he was the “best I ever had.”
